CBR-California Bearing Ratio
The ‘California Bearing Ratio’ (CBR) is a Penetration Test performed to evaluate the Mechanical Strength of Natural Ground, as well as on Subgrades and Base Courses beneath new Carriageway Constructions and also Flexible Pavements..
The ‘CBR-Rating’ was developed for the purpose of measuring the ‘Load-Bearing Capacity’ of soils, used for building roads.
The CBR can also be used for measuring the Load-Bearing Capacity of unimproved airstrips or for soils, under paved airstrips.

Here follows the Equation to Calculate the ‘CBR-Test’ as done on Soils:
CBR = (Load carried by specimen)/(load carried by standard specimen)×100
|= CBR [%]|
| ||= measured pressure for site soils [N/mm²]|
|= pressure to achieve equal penetration on standard soil [N/mm²]|
